 33rd Academy Graduation

New Castle County proudly presents the 33rd Recruit Class, an eclectic group of fine young men and women who successfully completed six grueling months of academy training in topics (to name a few) such as; physical fitness, patrol procedures, domestic violence, diversity training, use of force, the criminal and traffic codes, weaponless defenses, defensive driving, and much, much more.  As evidenced by the photograph, the 33rd Recruit Class was comprised of a diverse group of officers representing the following agencies: New Castle County,   Middletown, University of Delaware, Elsmere, Clayton, and the Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Agency.  The 33rd graduated on July 31, 2008 at a spectacular graduation program where friends and family joined police officers, council members, and other officials in celebrating their accomplishments.

Cache of Weapons, Destructive Devices Seized in Home Near Elementary School

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Robert O. Drendall, a 24 year old male who resides in the 2000 block of Maple Lane in the community of Claymont Heights.  Police have seized a number of home made weapons, bomb making materials, a destructive device designed to fire shotgun shells, a Samurai sword, and dozens of edged weapons from his home.

Pizza Delivery Man Arrested for DUI, Disorderly Conduct

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Joel Stevenson, a 40 year old male who resides in the unit block of Lamatan Road in the community of Lamatan in Newark.  He has been charged with disorderly conduct, DUI, and drug offenses after he returned to a home of a resident who failed to tip him (after delivering a pizza order) and doing “burn-outs” in front of the home.

Fugitive Arrested for Escape after Conviction, Found Hiding in Attic

 

New Castle County Police Safe Streets Officers have arrested David C. Houser, a 34 year old male who resides in the 1500 block of Montgomery Road in the community of Willow Run.  He has been charged with escape after conviction, resisting arrest, conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a minor after he attempted to hide in the attic of his girlfriend’s home when officers arrived armed with an arrest warrant.

Probationer Found with 27 Bags of Crack Cocaine

 

The New Castle County Safe Streets Team has arrested Anthony Dreher, a 28 year old male who resides in the unit block of Maynard Street in New Castle.  He has been charged with felony drug violations and related offenses after probation officers discovered he was in possession of crack cocaine packaged for sale while violating his curfew.

New Castle County police have arrested two men with multiple counts of theft of gasoline and related offenses after the duo attempted to steal gas from at least four cars in the community of Foxfire.

Domestic Violence Suspect, Attempts to Remove Officer’s Gun

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Dennis Johnson, an 18 year old male who resides in the unit block of Greenridge Road in the community of Brookhaven.  He has been charged with attempting to remove a firearm from a police officer who was investigating a domestic dispute between Johnson and a female.

Home Improvement Fraud Investigation, Victim 68

 

New Castle County Police have arrest warrants on file for Robert Hyer, a 49 year old male who resides in the 300 block of Great Oak Drive in Middletown, DE.  He is wanted for defrauding an elderly woman who paid him $26,375 to build her a deck and porch on her home.  Hyer completed only a small portion of the work and failed to return.  He has since stopped taking the victim’s calls, disconnected his phones and has moved out of his home.

Undercover Operation Leads to Arrest of Burglary Suspect

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Trevor Livesay, a 33 year old male who resides in the 200 block of May Avenue in the community of Collins Park.  He has been charged with burglary related offenses and resisting arrest after he tried to outrun police officers on his bicycle.

Police Seek Help in Identifying Theft Suspect

 

New Castle County Police are presently seeking a possible chain smoker who stole 15 cartons of cigarettes from an area WAWA convenience store.  The suspect’s image was captured on a surveillance video just prior to the theft.

Robbery Suspect’s Image Caught on Tape

 

New Castle County Police are presently investigating a “strong armed” robbery that occurred last week in the community of Edgemoor.  The victim was robbed after he and the suspect exited a Dart bus.  The suspect’s image was captured by the video surveillance.

New Castle County Police have arrested Kevin Jones, a 46 year old male who resides in the unit block of Philip Court in the community of Mill Race.  He has been charged with one count of indecent exposure after he exposed himself to his neighbor.

Serial Burglar Arrested in Stolen Car

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Nicholas Porter, a 26 year old male who resides in the 100 block of Cherry Lane in the community of Collins Park.  He has been linked to a week-long burglary spree involving at least five homes that were burglarized in his neighborhood after he was stopped in a vehicle he had stolen during the most recent break-in.

New Castle County Police have arrested Aasim Harps, a 33 year old male who resides in the 100 block of the Avalon Building in the Lexington Green Apartments.  He has been charged with felony drug violations after officers observed him attempting to make a drug sale to a passing motorist.

New Castle County Police have arrested Hipolito Melendez, a 20 year old male who resides in the 27000 block of Martins Farm Road in Milton, DE.  He has been charged with DUI and traffic related offenses after he crashed his car into the Towne Court Apartments.

North Carolina Postal Worker Wanted for Attempted Abduction of Virtual Boyfriend

 

New Castle County Detectives have arrest warrants on file for Kimberly Jernigan, a 33 year old female who resides in the 800 block of Parker Street in Durham, North Carolina.  She is currently being held in Maryland as a fugitive from Delaware after county detectives discovered she had driven to Delaware and plotted to kidnap her former virtual boyfriend and start a new life together “out west.”  The determined suspect broke into the victim’s apartment and waited for his return while equipped with handcuffs, a Taser, duct tape and a BB gun.

Probationer Found with 25 bags of cocaine, $1,354 in drug proceeds

 

The New Castle County Police Safe Streets Team has arrested James P. Anderson, a 31 year old (level III probationer) who resides in the 1500 block of New Jersey Avenue in the Hampton Walk Apartments.  Anderson has been charged with trafficking cocaine and related offenses after probation officers conducted a curfew check at his home and found him outside with 16 bags of crack cocaine in his pockets.

Suspect Wanted after Placing Butcher Knife to Mother’s Throat, Threatening to Kill Her

 

New Castle County Police have arrest warrants on file for Roshawn C. Gattis, a 35 year old male who resides in the 3000 block of Market Street in the City of Wilmington.  He is accused of assaulting his 60 year old mother yesterday afternoon during a domestic incident at her home.  During the assault, Gattis armed himself with a butcher knife and held it to his mother’s throat while threatening to kill her.  Before leaving, he caused approximately $2,500 in damage to his mother’s home.

Fingerprint “Hit” Leads to Arrest of Burglary Suspect

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Melissa Grzybowski, a 24 year old female who resides in the 600 block of Wildell Avenue in the Minquadale Trailer Park.  She has been charged with breaking into the home of a 90 year old female and stealing her purse, a gun and change from inside all while the victim pleaded with her to leave the home.

Alleged Drug Dealer Arrested in Rosegate with Crack Cocaine

Additional Drugs Found in Freezer

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Joshua Walker, an 18 year old male who resides in the 1200 block of Terra Hill Drive in Wilmington.  He has been arrested for selling drugs in the unit block of Rose Lane and later found to be hiding an additional 28 grams of crack cocaine that was stashed in his freezer at his home.

Man Charged with 13 Counts of Burglary, Copper Thefts

 

New Castle County Police have arrested John Moore, a 42 year old male who resides in the unit block of Luray Circle in the community of Jefferson Farms.  He has been charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft after investigators determined he stole several hundred pounds of copper wire from the Hampton Walk Apartments from May 2008 through August.

PIT BULL USED TO TRY AND PREVENT ARREST

 

New Castle County Police have arrested two Treelane Terrace, Newark, DE teenagers after one ran from police and was found to have drugs, and the other attempted to have a Pit Bull dog attack the arresting officer to prevent the arrest of her boyfriend.

NO LIGHTS LEAD TO DISCOVERY OF HEROIN AND CAPTURE OF SEX OFFENDER

 

 

New Castle County Police arrested two subjects after they were stopped for driving without headlights and then 19 grams of heroin were found inside of the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle was found to be wanted by the Wilmington Police Department for Failure to Re-Register as a Sex Offender.

Shooting investigation continues

  

New Castle County Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting that occurred on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 3:00 PM in the Lafayette Place Apartments, New Castle, DE. The 21 year old male victim was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for a gun shot wound to his right leg and released from the hospital.

Loitering Investigation Leads to Drug Bust

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Cheinier McCray, a 23 year old male who resides in the unit block of Continental Avenue in the City of Newark.  He has been charged with felony drug violations after he was stopped for loitering in the Admirals Club Apartments and tried to run off.  McCray, who was unable to out run the officers and their Tasers, was arrested as he tossed away two bags (16 grams) of cocaine.  While wrestling with the officers, his hat fell off and (10) Xanax pills and (10) Ecstasy pills spilled out.

New Castle County Police have arrested Daniel Chelland, an 18 year old male who resides in the 2100 block of Garfield Avenue in Wilmington.  He has been charged with two counts of lewdness after witnesses reported seeing him masturbate while sitting on a street curb watching a woman work in her garden.

Man Charged with Felony Assault on Probation Officer, Drug Possession

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Devon Reed, a 21 year old male who resides in the 1700 block of Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington.  He has been charged with felony assault, resisting arrest and associated offenses after he intentionally struck a probation officer while attempting to avoid apprehension.  The probation officer was later hospitalized for treatment to an injury to his neck.

9 Year Old Child Arrested for Setting Feline on Fire

 

Agents from the Delaware SPCA and officers from the New Castle County Police Department have arrested a 9 year old male who resides in the unit block of N. Rodney Drive in the community of Edgemoor.  The youth has been charged with one felony count of “cruelty to an animal that causes death” after he was linked to the intentional killing of cat after he set it on fire.

Drunken Driver Strikes Patrol Car, Officer Injured

 

New Castle County Police have arrested Torrence Maurice McCroey, a 24 year old male who resides in the unit block of Patrick Henry Drive in the community of Jefferson Farms.  He was arrested after his vehicle crashed into a marked patrol car injuring a police officer.  He was later arrested after he ran away from the scene and attempted to report he had been “car jacked.”

87 Year old Woman Saved by Senior Roll Call Lifeline

 

New Castle County Police Officers rescued an elderly woman yesterday morning after she failed to respond to the automated Senior Roll Call Lifeline phone call.  Officers discovered the woman had fallen down Wednesday evening and was unable to get up.  She spent the next several hours outside unprotected during the severe thunder and rain storms.
